By Dave Graybill

I had a great experience the other day. I had stopped by Hooked on Toys in Wenatchee and ran into someone that I knew from Lake Chelan. He was very excited and told me about the huge kokanee that he and his friends were getting on Chelan, way up lake. He said he didn’t know that kokanee got that big. Also, he said the cutthroat fishing was tremendous. Not only were people getting lots of them but they were big, too. He mentioned that one friend of his had measured one that was 26 inches. His family has lived on lake for a few generations, but he really hadn’t done much kokanee fishing since he and his granddad used to when he was very young. Now he is so impressed with the kokanee and cutthroat fishing on Lake Chelan that he is going to buy a boat, get it all set up and get after them himself. It was really great to see someone get that excited about fishing around here, and a reminder that while all the attention is on salmon fishing on the Columbia River, there is still some terrific fishing available on Lake Chelan right now.
