By Dave Graybill

I wanted to get Kevin Mitchell from Bob Feil Boats and Motors out to so some salmon fishing before it closed on the upper Columbia. I looked at my schedule and if we didn’t go this week it wasn’t going to happen. We just had time to run up to Wells Dam. I usually do great back trolling sardine wrapped plugs there this time of year. Well, usually didn’t work so well. I made several passes through my favorite run and didn’t get a bite. There were two other boats out there fishing for salmon, one of the boats did get two fish. They were jet planning eggs. What I did learn is that the walleye fishing is very good below Wells. There was a boat that had been there for a couple of days and had landed 30 fish. Judging by the size of the carcasses at the launch he was taking some big ones, too. I am very excited about fishing the Hanford Reach next week. Eric Granstrom and I will be fishing with Austin Moser and shooting some video on how to catch salmon down there. I will let you know how we do and when the video will be posted on line.
