Can you believe it? The 25th Annual Pikeminnow Derby that the East Wenatchee Rotary Club has been doing is coming up this weekend. I can’t thank this group enough for all the work they have done over the years to provide this great family event. Supported by the Chelan County PUD this derby serves two important purposes. Number one is to offer a great weekend of fishing fun with tons of prizes that include a boat and trailer, outboard motors, fishing gear and lots of cash. The total prize package this year adds up to over $10,000.00! The event kicks off on Friday, June 16th, at 6 p.m. and the weigh stations open on Saturday and fishing concludes at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday. The derby headquarters and awards ceremony is at the Orondo River Park in Orondo. The other purpose of the derby is to remove as many pikeminnows from the Columbia River as possible. These are voracious predators of salmon and steelhead smolt and everyone that is removed saves countless migrating fish. Pick up the rules and registration information at Bob Feil Boats and Motors, Hooked on Toys and Bi-Mart.
