By Eric Granstrom

For FishingMagician.com, I'm Eric Granstrom. My Dad's been here all week, trying to fill his cow elk tag in the Malaga Unit. While he's here, Mom's staying in a memory care unit at a local retirement community. It's been a good break for Dad as he's been Mom's only caregiver for the past five years since she was diagnosed with Dementia. It's amazing how many stories around the kitchen counter fly amidst the clink of a few ice cubes in a glass. We have re-killed untold amount of elk in stories of hunting the Blue Mountains and the Oregon Coast. We've slayed millions of sockeye salmon aboard the fishing vessel Sonja Lynn. We've scaled slippery reprods chasing blacktail deer in the hunting grounds of my youth. And we've landed a boat-load of fish on excursions to Lake Roosevelt, the Lower Columbia River, and Puget Sound. All of this while never leaving the comfort of my kitchen in East Wenatchee. It's the beauty of storytelling that seems to be a lost art. Marion's head is spinning, of course, from the barrage of one story after another. It's been a great visit. Here's hoping we fill his tag today. Until next time, Good Fishing!
