By Eric Granstrom

For FishingMagician.com, I'm Eric Granstrom. I got a call from a friend over the weekend asking for advice on fishing with a youngster. Seems he's going to take his grandson out fishing on a lake in Western Washington this coming weekend and wants to give him the best shot at success. Of course, fishing is fishing and nothing is guaranteed, but there are a few things to me mindful of before you go out. First, check the regulations on the body of water you want to fish. The lowland lake opener in Washington isn't until the last Saturday in April, so make sure it's open for fishing. Next, check the Department of Fish and Wildlife's website for their stocking report. That will give you a good indication of when the lake was last stocked and what size you can expect. If you're fishing a lake that's freshly stocked, these fish are used to being fed pellets. I would suggest plunking with Power Bait not far from where the fish were dumped into the lake, usually not far from the state launch. I'd also try trolling a Wedding Ring and night crawler. And, bring snacks. Until next time, Good Fishing!
