Temperatures remain very chilly throughout the region, so anglers are starting to sharpen up their augers and getting ready for ice fishing season. There are some reports filtering in about places where people are actually getting out on the ice and drilling holes. Earlier this week I got a photo from one of my followers showing 8 inches of ice on Curlew Lake and they said that rainbow and perch were being caught. I have also heard that there is good fishing at Bonaparte Lake. I traveled to Moses Lake on Thursday and confirmed that the lake is completely frozen over. I spotted people on the ice on the far eastern shore, and I saw an angler fishing off Blue Heron Park, up from the I-90 Bridge. Last year I converted my auger so I could use an electric drill to provide the power, instead of my aging muscles. I was very pleased with how it worked. If you want to try this be sure there is a handle or cup below the attachment. If your auger gets separated from the drill you won’t lose your auger through the ice. Replacing the blades on your auger can make drilling easier, too.
