Wednesday, September 14th We had a great trip to Lake Coeur d’ Alene. The six people that spent the better part of three days at a home with a dock really enjoyed our third visit to the big lake. We had excellent weather and weren’t really bothered by the smoke haze until our trip home last Monday. We spend many hours cruising around the lake and fishing for kokanee. I had been told by the folks at Fins and Feathers that the kokanee were exceptionally small this year and that hardly anyone was even fishing for them. We found out that was definitely the case. I don’t think we saw a half dozen boats fishing the lake the whole time we were there. We did catch a few kokanee when we did spend some time fishing for them, and they were really little—maybe six to eight inches. We did spend a short time fishing for bass, which are abundant in the lake, and got maybe one bite. I don’t know if we were just snake bit or that the impact of the full moon at the time was that dramatic. We still had a wonderful time and plan to visit the lake again.

When they told me that the kokanee were small on Lake Coeur d’ Alene this season they weren’t kidding!
