One of the best September salmon fishing seasons on the Upper Columbia River may just occur this year. Fishing has been off the pace in the Brewster Pool and Wells Dam areas, but due to the late arrival of many of the summer runs, there could be huge numbers of brighter-than-usual kings available in September this year. I took advantage of the triploid fishing both above Chief Joseph Dam and below it, when the special season was open, and didn’t do much salmon fishing in August. I did get one successful trip in above Wells Dam, and my plan is to make for it in September. Fishing at the Brewster Pool and around the corner at the area known as Pelican could really be hot this September. Kings will continue to stack up below Wells Dam, too. Last September the fishing above Wells Dam was very good, and this year should be even better. So don’t pack up your salmon gear. The fishing for summer runs this September could be some of the best in years. I am sure going to find out for myself, and I hope to see you out there. Super Baits should work great, and I am going to be fishing some bait-wrapped, deep diving Mag Lips, too.
