By Dave Graybill

My fishing buddy Rollie Schmitten and I had a good day at Rocky Ford recently. The rainy weather that was forecast didn’t appear, but the promised high winds did. We started out with good results first thing in the morning. Both of us hooked fish on streamers, and I got a fish right up to the bank that was one of the biggest I had ever got on the Ford. It was at least 27 inches and probably weighed 7 or 8 pounds. It looked like a salmon when I first spotted it, and boy was I surprised when it grabbed the olive streamer that I floated past its nose. Then the winds came up, and although we still managed to hook more fish as we worked our way up and down banks, casting was difficult. Still, the sun was out most of the time and it is always a blessing when the two of us can spend time together. The free seminar on kokanee fishing at Town Ford was a big success, with a standing room only crowd there to listen to Austin Moser and Shane Magnuson share their expertise. The next big date to remember is the Quincy Trout Derby coming up on Saturday, March 5th at Burke Lake.
