Anglers are enjoying very good success in the recently opened sturgeon fishing season on the upper Columbia River. Limit numbers of sturgeon are being taken from both boats and from shore below Rock Island Dam. This is the first time in over 20 years that anglers have been able to keep sturgeon this region and they are taking advantage of it. Summer run salmon fishing is also going great guns. If you want to learn how to catch these prized fish or just get a tune up, plan to attend the free seminar at Bob Feil Boats and Motors on Tuesday, July 12th, starting at 6 p.m. Austin Moser will be there to share his secrets on taking salmon and I will give a presentation on fishing for walleye at Banks Lake and kokanee on Lake Roosevelt. Better get your tickets for the annual CCA Salmon Derby in Wenatchee. The event takes place on July 15th and 16th. Over 200 fish were turned in last year, and there will be over $10,000.00 in cash and prizes handed out this year. Get your tickets at Hooked on Toys in Wenatchee or Sportsmen’s Warehouse in East Wenatchee. Get all the details at www.wenatcheesalmonderby.com.
