By Dave Graybill

On Wednesday, my brother Rick and Johnny from Hooked on Toys went up to Lake Chelan to see how the kokanee fishing was in late October. He reported that they had a pretty good bite when they started at about 8:30 that lasted about an hour. I thought he was going to tell me that they were fishing at the Yacht Club or even Mitchell Creek, but no they were off the Blue Roofs! They were fishing dodgers and hoochies baited with either white or pink shoe peg corn. The corn was scented with either Graybills Kokanee or Craw/Anise flavor. They started off with rod at just 25 feet, but got cutthroat, so they dropped down to 75 feet to avoid them. They wondered if they would find more fish further up lake so they moved to Manson Bay and got just one. They tried the Yacht Club and got none. So back to the Blue Roofs they went and they found kokanee again. They fished deeper now, at 112 feet. They never marked any schools of kokanee but still put a dozen in the cooler. Most of the kokanee were a fat 13 inches, with a couple smaller ones. As soon as I can get away, I am going up to Lake Chelan and try the kokanee fishing myself. With the good weather we are having it sounds like a good time to me.
