With the advent of spring, more and more anglers are shifting their attention from steelhead fishing on our rivers to our trout lakes and other pursuits. Hordes of anglers descended upon the Quincy-George area lakes, and there are some other spots generating some good reports. One exciting development is the return of good perch fishing in the vicinity of the I-90 Bridge at Moses Lake. Once again anglers are filling buckets with very fat perch off the rip rap bank here, and boaters are really scoring. They are taking a heavy toll of very large perch fishing Swedish Pimples in this area, according to Mike Gorham, at Mike’s Bait and Tackle in Moses Lake. Perch are also being caught in the marina bay at Coulee City, but they are running quite small so far. More good news is that the triploid plants by the Colville Tribe are paying off in the form of great catches of fish, mostly near the net pens, where they are released. These fish will be filtering down the reservoir and fishing should pick up down stream above the dam soon. Many of these fish are wearing a yellow tag, and if kept, be sure to share the information with Tribal Fisheries.
