There are a couple of theories out there about why the steelhead fishing on the upper Columbia River isn’t that great right now. One is that when we got the bad weather a while back, all the fish ran up into the Methow. The other theory is that when we had the bright moon phase they all moved up the river at night, when they could still see. Could be both theories are right. One thing I know is that there are fish in the Methow, lots of them. By far the best reports I am getting are from the good old Met. I still haven’t given up on Columbia. I got two fish at Bridgeport the other day, and I am planning to fish it again on Thursday. I may start below Wells Dam this time. On Friday I will be floating the Methow with Jim Passage and Jeff Brazda. We did this at about the same time last year and had a blast. We got two limits of hatchery fish and hooked and released some wild fish, too. Hope we do the same this year. Look for the report on my web site or read about it in the Nickel Ads next week.
