Sockeye fishing is great here on the upper Columbia River. Anglers are taking their two fish limits easily below Wanapum Dam, Rocky Reach Dam, Wells Dam and in the Brewster Pool. I fished below Wells recently and my fishing partner and I got our limits. It took me a while to find out what the sockeye wanted. I had my Lake Wenatchee sockeye box with me, and a rig I had tied up worked. It had a dark pink hoochie pulled down over a white and pink pill and two size 2 red hooks. The leader was 14 inches long. I had left my kokanee boxes in the boat, so I picked out a Kokabow pink squid spinner and gave it a try. They liked it! We got two fish each on the Lake Wenatchee rig and the Kokabow spinner. The Kokabow rig also had a 14-inch leader. I was using a size 0 silver prism dodger, but I am going to experiment with a Kokabow blade next time. If you are going to fish below Rocky Reach Dam be aware of the safety boundary here. There is a diagram on the Chelan County PUD web site that clearly shows the boundary.
