By Eric Granstrom

For FishingMagician.com, I'm Eric Granstrom. Marion and I are off to our annual vacation to the Washington coast. Funny, growing up in Skagit County, the "coast" has a different meaning for west-siders than it does for folks here in Eastern Washington. To them, the "coast" is anything west of the Cascades. To the west-siders, the "coast" is where you find the ocean and waves and sandy beaches. We are lucky enough to have friends who have a home right on the beach south of West Port who let us park our RV in their driveway overnight during our stay. In the morning, we hook up and drive all of a mile to the nearest beach access road and literally park on the beach all day long, enjoying the salty air. We bring firewood and a fire pit for when it gets chilly at night and I always take a fishing rod to try to coax a bite from the surf perch. I still haven't figured these fish out, yet I'll be trying again. At least I'm smarter now and bring my waders so I don't freeze to death in the surf. It's a much-needed week off. Until next time, Good Fishing!
