Other people probably didn’t want it so much, but steelhead anglers are getting the weather they wanted. The cold wet weather is just what the doctor ordered to move steelhead up the rivers and get the bite really rolling. Steelhead success has actually be pretty good so far this season, largely due the huge numbers of fish returning to the region. The fish, however, have been concentrated in the lower reaches of our rivers and the bite hasn’t been that great, as the water temperatures in all the river, even the Columbia, have been high. The even good steelhead fishing is going to get better, and the opportunity for anglers to experience the best fishing in years is just coming into its own. Those who have been out already and have been frustrated should be sure to attend the free steelhead fishing seminar next week at Town Ford in Wenatchee. It will be held on Wednesday. October 21st beginning at 6 p.m. I also want to remind anglers that salmon fishing is now closed on all rivers in our region. Even the stretch of the Columbia below Priest Rapids Dam has been closed. This area of the river will remain open to steelhead fishing through the 22nd.
