There’s a fishing party going on throughout Central Washington. Everywhere you look anglers are fishing for steelhead, and they are catching them, too. I am getting reports of success on every stream that is open. The only complaint I am getting is the number of kings that are being hooked while trying to catch steelhead! It doesn’t seem to matter which way you want to try to catch steelhead. Fly fishers are doing just fine on the Wenatchee and Methow. Anglers tossing spoons or spinners and drifting Corkies are getting their share, too. Bobber and jig fishers are taking fish without bait on the smaller streams, and with bait on the main stem Columbia River. My wife’s birthday wish was to go steelhead fishing last weekend, so off we went. In spite of howling winds with gusts over 30 miles per hour, she still hooked four steelhead, landed one, and missed several other “bobber sinkers”. She can’t wait to get back out there when the winds are mild and the current is strong. She wants to beat the time we had last year, when we she was catching more than I was—for a while.
