By Eric Granstrom

For FishingMagician.com, I'm Eric Granstrom. Before I headed bank fishing on Lake Roosevelt a week ago, I wanted something to put in the sand to hold my fishing rod. I dropped by the local sporting goods store perusing the shelves and found a couple options. One was a two-piece sand skewer including a swivel-based rod holder by Danielson. It cost all of $4.95. It worked wonderfully not only for its ease but because it allowed me to wind the reel while it was still in the holder without having to touch the rod. Another option I found was another item under $5 that was a telescoping "Y". The only trouble I could see with it in the long haul was the base of the telescoping pieces including a spring-release push button that may get buggered with sand and also might rust. Yes, a stick off a nearby tree whittled to suit with your pocketknife would certainly do for free but spending less than $5 for something that is easily transported to your spot is worth the investment. Of course, don't forget a good pile of firewood, a good lighter and some newspaper to stay warm. Until next time, Good Fishing!
